The National State of Disaster could come to an end as soon as next Monday.

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma briefed the media on Tuesday on regulations that would replace the State of Disaster for a period of no more than 30 days.

They have been published for a period of 48 hours for public comment, after which President Cyril Ramaphosa will apply his mind and announce the end to the State of Disaster.

Dlamini-Zuma says this will happen before 15 April, possibly the 5th.

Cabinet met last night and decided to “move towards ending the national state of disaster”, but with these regulations.

Dlamini Zuma says we are moving into a post disaster response.

Dlamini Zuma has defended government’s decision to extend the State of Disaster for 2 years running.

Among the proposed regulations are what has been published before by the Health Department, masks indoors but not outdoors, and certain restrictions on gatherings.

The R350 grants will continue but will be removed from the National Disaster Management regulations after 30 days. It will continue with other regulations.
