The City of Cape Town says the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa also owes it millions of Rand in unpaid municipality bills.
Mayoral Committee member for finance Siseko Mbandezi said PRASA’s overdue municipal bill at the City of Cape Town currently stands at R122.4 million.
R106.2 million is in arrears.
Mbandezi says the metro has already reported PRASA to the national treasury for the non-payment.
Legal action and steps for debt collection are also being taken.
This past week, PRASA had to pay a substantial amount to get its water and power supply reconnected after the City of Tshwane municipality disconnected services due to an overdue municipal bill of more than R28 million.
