The man who was arrested for allegedly starting a fire at St George’s Cathedral has been sent for a mental health assessment.

The 40-year old is expected to appear in court after this, on a charge of arson.

The man’s defence lawyer today said his client would be assessed by a district surgeon at Somerset Hospital in Cape Town.

He was allegedly identified on CCTV footage retrieved from a hotel in Wale Street.
