Census 2022: The Importance of Being Counted

The 4th national population census is officially underway. Census 2022 will collects data about people’s living conditions, access to basic services, income, and other socio-economic data. At least 165 000 fieldworkers will be spread out across the country to collect the data. This census will include the first digital population count and will allow residents to complete the census questionnaire with or without the assistance of a census fieldworker.

 

Talking to Smile Breakfast, Chief Director of Corporate Communications at Stats SA Trevor Oostewyk explained the importance of being counted.

 

Government is not alone in using the data from the 2022 census to deeply services but the private sector has access to the data too.
