The private hospital group, Mediclinic says data from its facilities across South Africa shows that while more younger people were going to the hospital for Covid-19, those patients were not critically ill.

Chief clinical officer Dr Gerrit de Villiers says the patient profile for this wave of cases includes younger patients and children under 12, which is significant in comparison to the previous three waves. Mediclinic’s admission data also shows that 75% of admitted patients with Covid-19 have NOT been vaccinated against the virus.
