Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan says about 2 000 megawatts of power have been restored to the system overnight and is likely to help with the system being downgraded from level 4 to level 3.

He says unless something unexpected happens, there will be no load shedding on election day, coming Monday. Briefing the media last night, he added that another few thousand megawatts should come online tomorrow, which will lead to a probable downgrade to level 2. Gordhan says the IEC has also put contingency plans in place at polling stations that fall outside of Eskom’s supply areas.
