WATCH: Farmers rejoice after the ‘best rain in years’ over the Central and Little Karoo

Published on

Farmers in the Central and Little Karoo are delighted with the good rainfall they have received over the past 24 hours.

Charles Muller, an agricultural producer from Merweville, sent the good news from the region this morning:

“This is the best rain since January 2014 in our region. This rain is incredibly valuable and with follow-up rain every 2 weeks it could be the end of the longest drought ever. This past week, farmers said they were just going to keep farming until the end of December, then they will throw in the towel. Now everyone just wants to farm! ”

PF Theron, Agri Western Cape’s regional representative in Central Karoo believes that this region has received really good rains.

“It rained widely and I suspect no one was skipped. It ranges from 15mm to 100mm. This is the best rain in 6 years. ”

Laubscher Coetzee, AWK’s regional representative for the Little Karoo, says it is still raining lightly on his farm with a measurement of 46 mm, whereas other areas such as Waboomskraal more than 70 mm rain was received.

Jannie Strydom, Chief Executive Officer of Agri Western Cape says this is great news for the region which has been plagued by severe drought for years.

“This is the most rain that the Little and Central Karoo has seen in years, we are incredibly grateful for every drop!”
