National police commissioner Khehla Sitole has written to President Cyril Ramaphosa to save his job, setting out how bad legal advice and a “plot” to oust him by former IPID boss Robert McBride had sullied his name.

At issue is a High Court judgment handed down in January, which found Sitole and 2 of his lieutenants, Francinah Vuma and Leonard Tsumane, “breached their duties” in failing to co-operate with IPID, as the cop watchdog probed a string of dodgy deals. The declaratory order is the basis of a looming inquiry into Sitole’s fitness to hold office.
