President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the country will be moved to Alert Level 4, for the next 14 days, after which it will be reviewed.
All gatherings are prohibited, including political, cultural, social and religious. Funerals and cremations are allowed, but only 50 people can attend. Night vigils are not allowed.
Public spaces like beaches and parks will remain open, but no gatherings are allowed.
The curfew will be between 9pm and 4am – all non essential establishments must close by 8pm. The sale of alcohol, on-site and off-site is prohibited.
Travel in and out of Gauteng for leisure is prohibited, this does not include traveling for work, business, transit or the transport of goods.
Restaurants and eateries, may only offer takeaways or deliveries.
School closures for the winter holidays will be brought forward, all schools will be expected to close by Friday, at the latest.
