DSD considering introduction of Basic Income Grant

Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu says her department wants to table a proposal to Cabinet, this year, to introduce a Basic Income Grant.

Zulu delivered her Department’s 2021/2022 budget this week and said the grant will target unemployed people, aged between 19 and 59.

The Minister says the proposal will build on the success of the Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress grant, which she says played a major role in the reduction of hunger, poverty and inequalities.
