The department of health says 3 641 new Covid-19 cases have been reported in the country, in the past 24 hours.

Nearly half of the new infections were recorded in Gauteng. Meanwhile, the department has expressed concern about the positivity rate, which is higher than 9%. The health ministry has raised alarm in the past, as the positivity rate climbed towards the 10% and 12% marks. The positivity rate is the number of positive results compared to the number of tests in the same 24-hour period. At the same time, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says another 61 people have died due to covid-19 related illness and the death toll is now at 55 568.
