Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula has bemoaned the high number of pedestrians who were killed on South African roads over the Easter weekend.
Mbalula released the Easter long-weekend accident-figures yesterday and said the country recorded a 5% increase in pedestrian fatalities, in comparison to the same period last year.
He says alcohol-use plays a huge role in leading to pedestrians being killed on the country’s roads.
It is however concerning to note that the number of pedestrians who died on the roads this year was higher compared to 2019.
Pedestrian fatalities increased by five percent from 30% to 35% compared to the 2019. We have observed that about 6% of pedestrian fatal crashes occurred pic.twitter.com/0HlNaqYUg0
