The City’s Directorate of Safety and Security says it is concerned with the increase in the number of crime-related arrests, here in the Metro, despite the partial ban on alcohol over the Easter long-weekend.
Mayco member, JP Smith says officials arrested nearly 300 people over the last week, nearly double the number of arrests made a week ago.
Smith says people were arrested for a range of offences including for drunk-, reckless and negligent driving and the possession of illegal drugs.
The arrest rate was nearly double that of the week before, with arrests for drunk driving, reckless and negligent driving and possession of drugs featuring prominently.
