The World Health Organization says its latest research shows that 1 in 3 women, globally, have been the victim of gender-based violence.

WHO Director General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says the study was the organization’s largest-ever, conducted on the prevalence of G.B.V. against women and girls.

He says the survey shows that an estimated 736-million women, globally, have suffered intimate-partner violence, sexual violence or both, at least once in their lives.

Ghebreyesus says young women are more at risk of this type of violence.
