Even though there has been a 1.7% increase in the South African unemployment rate, in the last 3 months of 2020, the Western Cape has managed to create more than 120,000 jobs in the same period.

MEC for Economic Opportunities, David Maynier says this growth in job-numbers is an early sign of economic recovery for the Western Cape.

He says the new jobs were seen mainly in the Agriculture, Construction, Trade and Community and Social Services sectors.

The Western Cape still has the lowest expanded unemployment rate in the country, at 26.8%.
