Extended Reality is the new reality…

Published on

I often talk about the quick pace of technology, but it’s crucial that we try and keep up with it, especially the ones that are likely to impact our lives.

For example, digital interface is something that started out very excitedly, with Virtual Reality (VR).

Over the past few years, VR slowly became old hat, as Augmented Reality and most recently, Mixed Reality took over.

So what’s next? It’s called Extended Reality … or XR.

It’s basically a mixture of everything we currently have, but in a convergence that’s going to give us another, man-made reality.

The transformation of already-transformative technologies.

And that’s because smart phones are simply not enough anymore… as Accenture’s Innovation Officer Paul Daugherty explains.

As for availability … there’s still the Oculus , which was the first time we had affordable access to VR.

There’s a rumour that Apple Glasses are due out early next year.

Microsoft hopes to give them the jump though, by releasing their new HoloLens later this year already.

And they are promising a significant upgrade on their advanced technology.

Locally, there’s a company in Stellenbosch called Sozo Labs that’s investing heavily in XR.

Smile breakfast has invited them to be part of the show one morning.
