2 people, including 7 year old boy, killed in Eersterivier fire

Kleinvlei police registered a double murder and arson case for investigation after a house fire in Forest Village, Eersterivier in the early hours of Sunday morning, claimed the lives of two people, including a child.

 

According to the City’s Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse, its teams received the call of a formal dwelling alight in Baxter Street, Forest Village at 2:15 am.

 

“One adult and a male minor sustained fatal burn wounds. The scene was handed over to the South African Police Service,” added Carelse

 

According to police captain Frederick Van Wyk, the circumstances surrounding the fire at the premises are still under investigation.

 

According to reports SAPS members on duty attended the scene and found the Fire brigade already busy extinguishing the fire. When the fire was extinguished, the bodies of a seven-year-old boy and an unidentified person were found inside the house.

 

“Investigation continues, no arrest.” added van Wyk

More fires reported in the City this weekend

 

The City’s Fire & Rescue Service also received the call of informal dwellings alight in Hlanaga Street, Joe Slovo Park in Milnerton at 03:11 on Sunday morning. According to spokesperson Jermaine Carelse, thirteen firefighting vehicles responded to the incident and the fire was extinguished after 08:00. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

 

At the same time in Vrygrond, the City’s Fire & Rescue Service teams received the call of informal dwellings alight just after midnight on Sunday. Three motor pumps and two water tankers were on scene and the fire was extinguished at 02:08. One adult, gender unknown, died in the fire after sustaining fatal burn wounds.

 

Meanwhile, outside of the City, one woman died in a blaze in a part of Wellington on Sunday after a fire broke out in the New Rest-Egoli region. More than 200 informal settlements were destroyed in the blaze and roughly 800 people were left displaced.
