The World Health Organization has warned against “a pandemic within a pandemic”, which could be worsened by the Vaccine Inequality, currently experienced across the Globe.
Chief Scientist at the WHO, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan says if first-world countries keep on hoarding their excess stock of Covid-19 vaccines it could lead to the new, more-virulent variants of the virus spreading even further and faster.
Swaminathan says this would affect especially low-income countries, where the vaccines are not yet available and whose health-care systems are already under strain.
New variants are popping up at such a rate that the vaccines simply cannot keep up. What can be done to tackle this issue?
