Cape Town Disaster Management says mopping up operations are continuing across the city, following damage caused by the heavy rainfall. The worst affected areas are informal settlements in Khayelitsha, Ottery, Langa, Strand, Philippi, Gugulethu, Delft and Vrygrond. The City’s Transport Diretorate is meanwhie providing milling and sand where possible, to raise floor levels.

Homes were flooded in First Ave, in Ravensmead where a retention pond overflowed. In Freedom Park, Ottery the roofs of temporary structures collapsed due to the heavy rain. Many roads across the city have also been flooded. At the same time, weather-related power outages are being experienced in Mitchell’s Plain, Bridgetown, Rosebank, Mowbray, Claremont, Philippi, Hout Bay, Grassy Park and Zeekoevlei.

Water-shedding has been implemented in several Eastern Cape towns as dams have run dry. Water collection points have been installed in several suburbs in the Kouga Municipality, as water-shedding was implemented from yesterday. This includes the towns of Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp and the Greater St Francis Area.
