Teachers from the Western Cape have once again brought pride to the province, securing four first-place wins at the 25th annual National Teaching Awards, held today in Boksburg. The awards celebrate excellence in teaching across South Africa.

Western Cape Education Department MEC David Maynier congratulated the winners, saying they had set an example for learners across the province.

“Congratulations to our exceptional winners. You inspire your learners to achieve great things because behind every dream realised is a teacher who believed. Thank you for the work you do every day to support the children of the Western Cape.”

This year’s Western Cape winners include:

Excellence in Teaching Physical Sciences: Lana Schreuder, Rhenish Girls’ High School, Stellenbosch (Cape Winelands)

Excellence in Special Needs Teaching: Chantelle Carstens, Paarl School, Brackenfell (Metro East)

Excellence in Teaching Life Skills (Grades 1–6): Ammarah Ford-Pieters, Cedar Primary School, Bonteheuwel (Metro Central)

In addition, the awards included the Minister’s Special Award, which allowed learners to nominate their most deserving teacher. Charnelle Arendse from Belmor Primary School in Hanover Park (Metro Central) won following a heartfelt nomination by her student, Jade Amos.

The Western Cape Education Department hailed all winners for their dedication, passion, and commitment to shaping the next generation.
