School of Rock star, Jack Black once said “I service society by rocking, ok?” And it is that time of the year to rock around the clock, and roll into the annual High School Band Slam!

It is hosted each year at the V&A Waterfront, and this time around MTN has come on board to present it. Witness future rock stars in action from today, with finals taking place on Friday, March 31.

Bands from Western Cape schools will battle it out for the title of 2023 winner! The school in first place will receive a shiny R25,000 prize. Second place receives R15,000 and third place will receive R10,000.

A Spirit Award worth R5000 is also up for grabs at the V&A Waterfront High School Band Slam!

Watch these talented young musicians play and sing their hearts out at the V&A Amphitheatre. The final three schools will also take to the stage here for a chance to walk away with musical equipment for their school, to the value of R25,000.

An expert panel of judges will score each school band on musicality, which includes technical proficiency, originality and song arrangements to name a few.
They will also be judged on performance attitude and confidence. Schools will also need to have the crowd on their side, and their school’s enthusiasm in order to finally impress the experts.

A lot is riding on their performances, and patrons are encouraged to come and support these young superstars – for free!
