The Western Cape E-Hailing Association chairperson, Siyabonga Hlabisa, has condemned the incident and says attacks on drivers are becoming a common occurrence.

Speaking to Smile FM, Hlabisa says attacks of this nature have been taking place for a very long time and added that the association has been calling on the South African Police Service (SAPS) to assist the industry.

“We are busy trying to prepare a campaign that will go to every society in the Western Cape, just to to do awareness campaign about the killings and the attacks on the drivers,” added Hlabisa

He says the association will be meeting up with several forums, especially the SAPS, together with the community forums to assist them, and we to also mark dangerous areas as no-go zones for e-hailing drivers.

“So in this accident we are very shocked by what happened. – We are trying at the moment trying to find out where the driver is, who was attacked so that we can also able to go and give some assistance on him,”

Hlabisa could not confirm the severity of the driver’s injuries at this stage.

Police have called on anyone with any information about this incident to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.
