A Nigerian rapper known as “3gar” miraculously survived a dramatic high-speed crash in Sea Point after losing control of his McLaren 570S worth about R3 million.

The crash occurred on High Level Road on Saturday, 1 March when the 29-year-old was reportedly driving at over 200 km/h before slamming into a pavement and wall.

Shocking footage of the crash, showing the crumpled remains of the luxury supercar, quickly went viral on social media, amassing millions of views.

Many online users expressed astonishment that 3gar escaped with only minor injuries, while others condemned the apparent recklessness of the incident.

Emergency responders rushed 3gar and his passenger to the hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. However, social media speculation suggested the rapper was under the influence of cocaine at the time of the crash.

In an Instagram post following the accident, 3gar wrote, “Nah small thing remain. Could’ve been all over! I can’t stop thanking God for life,” further fueling online discussions about his narrow escape.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed, “Sea Point police registered a reckless and negligent driving case for investigation following a one-vehicle crash on High Level Road, Sea Point, on Saturday morning. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.”

While 3gar walked away with his life, his McLaren has been declared a total loss. The crash has reignited debates about reckless driving among luxury car owners in Cape Town, particularly following a fatal accident just a month earlier.

On February 1, Dr. Ncumisa Mdlokolo, a 32-year-old dental surgeon from Durban, was fatally struck by a speeding Ferrari while walking with her sister on Buitengracht Street. The driver, David Polet, is now facing charges of culpable homicide and driving under the influence.

With over 10,000 deaths occurring annually on South Africa’s roads, incidents like these continue to spark concern over high-speed driving and road safety. While some are hailing 3gar’s survival as miraculous, others see it as a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless driving.
