W.H.O.: Don’t wait for updated vaccines to get vaccinated

Published on

As new variants of Covid-19 emerge, people have been advised to get their Covid-19 vaccination as soon as they can, instead of waiting for update versions of vaccines.

The World Health Organization says the currently available vaccines have been proven to provide sufficient protection against severe disease, hospitalization and death.

Chief Scientist at the WHO, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan says even though the vaccines don’t protect against infection, the main aim is to protect health-care systems from being overwhelmed.

She says healthcare workers, especially, should get vaccinated.
