Up to 70% of Covid-19 test cases in the past month were due to the Omicron variant.

Health Minister Joe Phaahla today said Omicron is fast becoming the dominant variant in South Africa, and will overtake the Delta variant.

Phaahlsa says 90,000 new infections were reported in all provinces in just under a month.

Yesterday, there were more than 22,000 new infections.

Omicron has now been identified in 57 countries around the world.
