Two suspects were arrested for possessing West Coast rock lobster in as many days. They did not have permits for the marine animals. The arrests were carried out by local law enforcement agencies.

In the first operation on Saturday in Ravensmead, Marine Unit officers followed up on a lead at an address, arrested a 47-year-old suspect and confiscated 420 lobster tails. On Sunday, officers were on patrol in Hout Bay when they received information again about the illegal sale of rock lobster without a permit. A 45-year-old suspect was taken into custody after he was found in possession of 192 rock lobsters. Mayco Member JP Smith has thanked members of the public who gave information that led to these arrests.

 

Rock lobster: Warning

 

At the same time, the City has warned members of the public that with the warmer months approaching, there’ll be an increase in poaching incidents. MMC, JP Smith has called on people to blow the whistle on any suspected illegal activities. Smith added that if you buy these marine resources that have been illegally harvested, you are adding to the problem.
