Two people have been rescued by Good Samaritans in separate incidents at sea. The National Sea Rescue Institute says a man who fell off the Promenade in Sea Point, into the sea, has been rescued. The incident took place early last night, at the Lighthouse in Mouille Point.

Spokesperson Craig Lambinon says on arrival of rescue crew members on the scene, it was found that a 27-year-old man from Durban, while on the Promenade with friends, had fallen off the edge of the wall into the sea. He sustained serious injuries. Two Good Samaritans have been lauded for getting the injured man onto rocks, before rescuers arrived and transported him to hospital, in a serious but stable condition.
Woman swimmer rescued in Hermanus
At the same time, the NSRI also praised Good Samaritans in Hermanus, after they helped a woman, who was earlier swept out to sea, after apparently being caught in strong rip currents. Rescue officials were deployed to the Old Harbour, following eyewitness reports of a drowning in progress. Lambinon says when rescuers arrived, they found a local 50-year-old woman, safe on the shore in the care of an Italian doctor, who happened to be on the scene.
Treated for non-fatal drowning symptoms
She was treated for non-fatal drowning symptoms and transported to hospital. She’s in a stable condition. Earlier, a woman and a man had swum out to the woman in distress and brought her to shore. However there was another incident at sea this weekend at Witsand, which claimed the life of a man. Spokesperson Craig Lambinon says a man died after a boat capsized at the Breede River Mouth, in Witsand, early yesterday morning.
A father, believed to be aged 50, was unconscious and unresponsive
According to eyewitnesses, a ski-boat, with 4 crew onboard, had capsized in the vicinity of the sand bar in the Breede River Mouth while appearing to be exiting the river mouth. A father, believed to be aged 50, his 2 teenage daughters (aged 15 and 17) from Robertson and a male friend (believed to be age in his 20’s), were on the vessel, when tragedy struck. Lambinon says a local fishing vessel, The Jolly Rodger with NSRI crew on-board, rescued all 4 victims from the water but the father was unconscious and unresponsive.
