Western Cape Police Detectives are investigating yet another deadly taxi-related shooting in Cape Town, this time at the Macassar Heights taxi pickup point.
According to police, two people were shot and killed, and two bystanders were injured at the taxi pick-up point on Mandela Drive in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to preliminary police reports, a group of unknown armed men approached the taxi facility and opened fire, fatally shooting two males at the scene. Two bystanders were struck in the crossfire and sustained gunshot wounds. The injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Macassar SAPS has since registered two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Police spokesperson, Lt. Col. Malcolm Pojie, says forensic experts were deployed to the scene to collect evidence as detectives continue their probe. Authorities believe the attack is linked to the ongoing taxi-related conflict in the region.
The suspects fled the scene in an unknown getaway vehicle and have yet to be arrested.
This latest shooting follows three fatal shooting incidents in Khayekitsha and Philippi since the weekend.
On Saturday, a man was shot dead at the Somerset taxi rank in Makhaza. On Monday morning, gunmen opened fire at the Vuyani taxi rank in Khayelitsha, killing a taxi driver and injuring two others.
Hours later in Philippi East, two more people were killed and four were wounded in another shooting. Police say the suspects also fled the scene in a getaway car and are yet to be arrested.

The Western Cape Government have strongly condemned the violence that has unfolded over the past few days in incidents linked to the taxi industry, adding that these attacks are deeply disturbing and have no place in local communities.
Western Cape Mobility Minister Isaac Sileku and Western Cape Police Oversight and Community Safety Minister Anroux Marais have expressed their deep concern and called for calm.
Police have appealed to anyone with information which could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact Detective Captain Lukhunyo Magadla on 082 411 3245 for the Macassar Heights fatal shooting.
