Two factories gutted after Thursday’s Killarney Gardens fire

Published on

The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services have confirmed that two factories were left gutted following Thursday afternoon’s fire in Killarney Gardens.

According to fire and rescue spokesperson Jermaine Carelse, City firefighters were alerted about the blaze at 14:20.

At the time, Carelse said a number of resources were dispatched to the scene, with crews and equipment from at least seven fire stations to fight the fire. An Incident Management Team (IMT) were also on-site overseeing operations.

“At this time, there are no reports of injuries”

According to Carelse, the fire was extinguished at approximately 18:00 on Tuesday. Once firefighters contained the blaze, they remained on scene to monitor for any flare-ups and to complete mopping-up operations.

Following the containment of the blaze, the Building Inspector rendered the site unsafe, and no persons were injured during the incident.

The cause of the fire remains unclear at this stage, pending an investigation by the property owners.

Eskom Power outage in Killarney Gardens

At the same time, Eskom customers in Killarney Gardens are currently experiencing a loss of electricity supply due to a network fault that occurred on Thursday afternoon.

Eskom says its operators were onsite to do assessments and determine the cause of the unplanned outage. However, due to the complex nature of the fault, specialised resources were requested to assist with the recovery operations.

At this stage the power utility says the estimated time for electricity restoration is yet to be determined.

” – we urge the affected customers to remain patient and utilize the channels made available to log a fault or stay updated.”

Eskom has encouraged customers to download the MyEskom Customer App, which is available on the iStore and Google Play Store or use the Alfred Chatbot on the Eskom website to log a fault.

“Eskom apologises for any inconvenience caused to its customers and will endeavour to restore the supply as soon as possible.”
