Earlier this year, Delft was dubbed the murder capital of the country after topping both the provincial and national murder crime statistics.

Over 1,160 people were murdered in the Western Cape between July and September this year. This is 114 more murders when compared to the same period last year.

Last month, the provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Thembesile Patekile, noted that migration has played a role in certain communities, but in Delft, the elevated crime rate is attributed to parolees.
