Murder accused Tiffany Meek has been denied bail.

The 31-year-old is accused of murdering her 11-year-old son Jayden-Lee Meek on 13 May 2025. The State alleges that Meek murdered her son inside their apartment at the Swazi’s Place complex in Fleurhof.

They allege Meek then hid Jayden-Lee’s body inside the apartment on the night of 13 May, returning to the complex in the early hours of the next morning, 14 May, and dragging his half-naked body a few metres from her front door on the stairs, before hurriedly leaving the building again.

This is when, according to the State, another tenant found Jayden-Lee and alerted the security guard.

Meek has denied all the charges against her, instead claiming that she is being framed.

Her lawyer presented several alternative versions to the court, attempting to prove that the timeline presented by the State is inaccurate and false.

But Magistrate Anneline Africa ruled on Tuesday that Meek has demonstrated the means and intent to obstruct justice — she accused the school transport driver of not dropping off her son on 13 May, despite eyewitnesses to the contrary, she accused the security guard at Swazi’s Place of lying, and she is accusing another individual of placing her child’s body on the stairs.

Africa said that if the applicant (Meek) can deceive without hesitation, it stands to reason that she also has the potential to influence others, including her family, to interfere with the case.

She said if Meek were to be released on bail, it could also undermine public peace and confidence in the justice system.

Furthermore, according to the Magistrate, all the aforementioned factors present a real risk that she may evade trial, particularly given the strong incentives to do so.

Meek has thus failed to satisfy the court that the interests of justice permit her release on bail.
