There are reports that members of the national coronavirus command council are due to meet this weekend, to discuss adjustments to the covid-19 lockdown, in light of the discovery of a new variant in the country.

Several cases of variant B.1.1.529 were discovered in South Africa, but also in Botswana and Hong Kong. Last night, Britain announced, it would temporarily ban flights from SA and 5 other neighbouring countries from 2 pm SA-time today. British travellers returning home from these destinations will also have to go into quarantine.
