Yesterday more than 10 000 new cases were confirmed. The most active cases are in KwaZulu-Natal (2 878) followed by the Western Cape (2 607).  Gauteng (1,241) and the Eastern Cape are the only other provinces with more than 1 000 active cases.
Meanwhile, over 10 000 vaccinations have been administered in the country in the past 24 hours. Overall, more than 9.3 million vaccine doses have been administered, since the start of the inoculation campaign. Over the latest 24-hour monitoring period, more than 5 000 people were fully vaccinated. From today, people will also be able to be vaccinated on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday, at the Grand West Casino complex.

Further afield, a coronavirus curfew was announced today for Australia’s second-biggest city of Melbourne, with residents confined to their homes, as authorities work to stamp out a Delta variant outbreak. More than 5 million Melbourne residents will be unable to leave their homes between 21:00 and 05:00 from tonight, with essential workers requiring permits to be on the streets.
