The provincial head of health, dr. Keith Cloete has expressed his concern about a small increase in new Covid-19 infections on the West Coast.

He says this is because the region is close to the Northern Cape, which is currently experiencing the third wave, along with Gauteng and the Free State. Cloete added in the Metro, there is another cause for concern as new infections here are also on the increase, at a quicker pace. Cloete furthermore added that the Western Cape will not escape the dreaded third wave, but experts believe it may be less severe than the second wave. If current patterns continue, the third wave could be here by mid-June.
