King Charles III will be launching in collaboration with Apple Music, a music playlist, personally selected by the King, filled with music that lifts his spirits and brings back important memories, including Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue and Grace Jones.
The announcement, recorded at Buckingham Palace, sees the King’s Music Room offering an exclusive insight into his relationship with music from around the Commonwealth. The playlist includes artists ranging from 1930s crooners to Afrobeats stars, disco divas, and reggae icons.
“A musical journey that reflects His Majesty’s personal taste, the show is shaped by his extraordinary experiences from around the world.”
In the broadcast, which the King recorded to mark this year’s Commonwealth Day, he also shares anecdotes about his encounters with some of the artists featured and reveals why the songs help form the soundtrack to his life.
“Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. I know that is also the case for so many others.” added the King
In a statement released on the royal website, it is noted that the playlist crosses continents and genres and includes legendary artists Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, and Grace Jones, alongside contemporary talents such as Davido and RAYE.
“The King’s Music Room is sure to surprise and delight music fans everywhere, revealing a more personal side to His Majesty.”
