Three other incidents were also reported, which included 8 voting stations not opening in KwaZulu-Natal due to a dispute over traditional leadership. The IEC also had to lay charges with the police after a voter tore a ballot paper in Mpumalanga. In Limpopo, charges were laid with the police after political party members stormed a secure storage for special voting ballot papers, causing damage to one ballot box and the facility.
The IEC has also urged eligible voters, who may have travelled over the long weekend, to make sure they are near their voting districts before 9 pm tonight. There are 26.2 million eligible voters, with a network of over 23 000 voting stations, which will open at 7 am and close at 9 pm. In the Western Cape, there are 3.1 million registered voters, of which 1.9 million are in the Cape Town Metro. If you are in the line at 9 pm, you will not be turned away.
