The Department of International Relations and Cooperation has sacked its chief financial officer, Caiphus Ramashau, over the botched R118 million New York land deal, following the conclusion of a disciplinary case.

In October last year, Dirco was rocked by allegations that it paid R18 million to acquire a prime piece of vacant land, in the US, which didn’t exist. Dirco lost the money, paid as an upfront fee, to buy the piece of land to build office space and accommodation but on a fact-finding mission to New York, carried out by MPs, they found that the piece of land did not exist.
