The department of health says the country has recorded its fifth-highest daily number of fatalities linked to the coronavirus, after 680 people died in the latest 24-hour monitoring period. The national death toll has increased to 41 797. All five of the most deadly Covid-19 days in South Africa have come in the past 2 weeks. Health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says 6 041 new Covid-19 infections were also confirmed. The recovery rate has improved to 88%.
