Nearly half of the new infections were recorded in Gauteng. Meanwhile, the department has expressed concern about the positivity rate, which is higher than 9%. The health ministry has raised alarm in the past, as the positivity rate climbed towards the 10% and 12% marks. The positivity rate is the number of positive results compared to the number of tests in the same 24-hour period. At the same time, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says another 61 people have died due to covid-19 related illness and the death toll is now at 55 568.
