The death toll from the tropical storm that hit Mozambique, Madagascar and Malawi this week has risen to 77.

The full extent of the damage in the three countries has yet to be determined.

Authorities in Madagascar said 48 people died, while 18 fatalities were reported in Mozambique and 11 in Malawi.

Although Zimbabwe has also been hit by the storm, no deaths have been reported so far.

The BBC reports that as many as 100,000 people have been left homeless.
