The taxi driver caught on camera in an alleged “road rage” stabbing incident in Maitland in June has been denied bail. Twenty-eight-year-old Mthuthuzeli Sikhweza from Philippi returned to the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where he’s facing a charge of attempted murder and reckless and negligent driving.

While his legal representation argued for him to be released because he’s the breadwinner, the State argued that they’re opposing bail because of the multiple times the victim was stabbed. It was also their argument that Sikhweza had two previous cases of reckless driving pending against him.

Thirdly, he did not have a valid driver’s permit. The matter was postponed to September.
