Another life has been lost to suspected gang violence in the Cape.

A 37-year-old man was shot and killed in Wesbank on Saturday evening, while three others were injured.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain F.C. Van Wyk says officers were patrolling Avila Street when they heard gunshots and immediately responded.

“As they approached Wesbank Main Road, they were stopped by a member of the community who pointed out the crime scene.”

The deceased was found lying in front of a house with gunshot wounds to his head. Medical personnel declared him dead at the scene.

Van Wyk says three other victims were injured in the shooting.

“Three injured victims, two females aged 43 and 50, and one male aged 60, were transported to hospital.”

Police have registered a case of murder and three counts of attempted murder. The motive is believed to be gang-related.

Van Wyk says the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
