Akani Simbine has reinforced his pedigree as one of the quickest and most dangerous sprinters on the planet as he spearheaded the charge towards the gold medal in the 4×100 metres final – snatching a victory from Brazil, finishing at 38.71, a mere hundredth of a second faster than Brazil.

It’s South Africa’s first ever gold medal at the World Athletics Relay Championships.

Brazil was later disqualified, for not running in their lane, giving Italy the silver medal in 39.21.
