KwaZulu-Natal recorded the majority of new cases, followed by the Northern Cape and Free State. At the same time, a further 42 deaths were recorded, taking total fatalities to 86 216.

Meanwhile, ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa says in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, there has to be economic reform. He was the keynote speaker at COSATU’S Central Committee Meeting. Data released last month show that the unemployment rate has hit a record high of 34.4% in the second quarter, showing there are at least 7-point-8 million unemployed people. Ramaphosa says there are lessons to be learnt from other countries.
