SONA road closures

Take note of some of the road closures, to be instituted for the SONA.

If you are planning to travel to the CBD on Thursday, take some time to plan your route, as the annual State of the Nation Address (SONA) will see several roads being closed in and around the City Centre.

The SONA is coming in a few days’ time

President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the SONA on Thursday, the 9th of February. There are also roads being closed from today (Monday).
SONA 2023 Road Closures
Cape Town Traffic: ” To assist with traffic flow and accommodate the State of the Nation Address, the City of Cape Town will effect road closures that will primarily be in the Central Business District.”

With the SONA happening later this week, here is all the information you need to be informed about the routes into and out of the city.

A spokesperson for the City’s Traffic Service, Maxine Bezuidenhout, says some road closures will be in effect from today, Monday until Wednesday. This will allow for rehearsals to be held, on the streets in the CBD.
Bezuidenhout added: “The road closures will affect the normal flow of traffic in and around the city bowl.”

Motorists are being asked to take note of the closures and to plan their routes accordingly.

In the following areas from 06h00 to 23h59 on 9 February 2023

• Darling Street from Lower Plein Street to Corporation Street

• Longmarket Street between Plein and Corporation Street

• Corporation Street between Longmarket and Caledon Street

• Longmarket Street between Plein to Buitenkant Street

• Parade Street from Albertus Street to Darling Street
