There have been several deaths in the City over the Easter long weekend. Reports state that at least 6 bodies were found in various areas over the past few days. The majority of the murders were due to gun violence. At the same time, it’s believed that 6 other people sustained gunshot wounds and are being treated in the hospital.
A bloody Easter weekend
According to Cape Town Police, one of the deaths was a security guard who was shot and killed in Heather Park, in Kleinvlei. Spokesperson Wesley Twigg says when officers arrived on the scene, the victim was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head. Sergeant Twigg says the 39-year-old guard had worked for ADT. He was declared dead on the scene. No one was arrested for the murder, and the motive has also not been established yet.
Six bodies have been found
Twigg continued that in a separate incident, the body of a LGBTQIA+ activist was found in an area between a primary school and the tennis courts in Bonteheuwel. He says Linten Jutzen had no visible injuries. An inquest has been opened. At the same time, a post-mortem will be carried out to ascertain the cause of death.
The victims had gunshot wounds
Another death in Delft has left police members scratching their heads. The body of a man was found at a substation on Rosendal Road. The cause of death was not visible. Another inquest will be registered for further probing.
No arrests yet
Two gunshot wound victims (a 28-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman) were found in Valhalla Park over the weekend and taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, in Parkwood, 3 men aged 19, 24 and 31 had to be rushed to the hospital after they also sustained gunshot wounds. In Elsies River, a man was found at a medical facility with a gunshot wound to his leg.
More victims discovered
The body of a 36-year-old man was discovered on the corner of Blackbird Avenue and Cuckoo Crescent in Parkwood. A body was also discovered in an open field on Bofors Circle, in Elsies River, in recent days. The body of a 38-year-old was found with multiple gunshot wounds on Saturday in Inkblom Street in Kalksteenfontein.
