Seven alleged illegal alcohol manufacturers have been arrested

Seven alleged illegal alcohol manufacturers of Somalian nationality have been arrested in Klapmuts. They were detained after officers followed up on information about a facility that was manufacturing illegal alcohol in the area.

Seven alleged illegal alcohol manufacturers, of Somalian nationality, have been arrested in Klapmuts

 

Sergeant Wesley Twigg says members of the Maitland Flying Squad were dispatched to the area yesterday (Monday, 08 September 2025). He says the officers visited the premises on the R44 in Klapmuts and found the facility, which had alcohol manufacturing equipment inside the building.

Twigg added that seven Somali nationals, five males and two females, were taken into custody on a charge of Contravention of the Liquor Act. The males are aged between  25 and 43 years, and the women are both 20 years old. He says the equipment was confiscated.

This included containers containing ethanol, ten large white 1000-litre containers, empty bottles, and machines. Twigg added that once the suspects are charged, they will make an appearance in the Paarl Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges.
