Marine rescue authorities are searching for a missing skipper, who disappeared while attempting to swim to safety when his boat capsized near Cape Point.
The small fishing ski boat, which carried two men, capsized on Saturday. The skipper had attempted to swim to safety, by using a fuel tank as a flotation device, as he was not wearing in a life jacket.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) and other entities managed to rescue one survivor who was found clinging to the watercraft. NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said rescuers managed to find the fuel tank, but there is still no trace of the missing man.
“Despite the extensive air and sea search there remains no signs of the missing man. The survivor was brought to the NSRI Simonstown station 10 rescue base where he was medically assessed by CMR (Cape Medical Response) paramedics. Suffering injuries and exhaustion, and rewarmed from hypothermia, he was released into the care of family. An investigation has been opened by Police and SAMSA (South African Maritime Safety Authority). SAPS Water Policing and Diving Services and Police Sea Borderline Control are alerted,” said Lambinon.
