The SA Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) has welcomed the opening of Round 6 of procurement of renewable energy to allow more electricity to be made available to the country’s energy mix.
The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy this week announced the opening of Round 6 of the Renewable Energy IPP Procurement Programme which will procure a further 2,600 MW of renewable energy from Independent Power Producers.
SAWEA CEO, Niveshen Govender says in this round, 1.6 GW of electricity would be procured from wind energy producers.

Govender says the procurement of the additional electricity would help stabilize the country’s energy supply.
