With the 98th Comrades Marathon just days away, the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Fannie Masemola, has pledged his full support to the 437 police officers who will be participating.

The group includes 66 women and 371 men.

The popular ultramarathon — one of the most anticipated sporting events on South Africa’s calendar — is set to take place this Sunday, 8 June 2025, in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

“The participation of police officers in this marathon signifies the magnitude of resilience, discipline, and unwavering determination within our ranks,” said SAPS Major-General Nonkululeko Phokane.

This year’s Comrades Marathon will also feature a record-breaking prize pool of over $423,000 — that’s a staggering R7.5 million — marking a significant increase from previous years.
